Our national policy work is grounded in lived experience and shaped through a layered, participatory structure designed to ensure diversity, inclusion, and accountability. Our approach is informed by the depth and breadth of lived experience from the ground up. Our Board of Directors ensure that we remain accountable to the 50+ year history of the mental health consumer movement in Australia, and our 8000+ active members.
Here's how it works
Each state and territory lived experience peak body supports two self-determining lived experience leader groups.
The Alliance support our members - the state and territory consumer peak bodies - to facilitate a Consumer Advisory Group with a minimum of 4 members.
These groups identify local priorities, emerging issues, and lived experience insights to new self-defined initiatives and government policies and projects.
Affinity Groups are organised based on a common identity and / or intersectionality. We have nine Affinity Groups:
We ensure our work is not only informed by lived experience but also by cultural authority and the principle of self-determination through our partnership with the Indigenous Australian Lived Experience Centre and through the leadership of our First Nations Board members.
